Here is a recipe for chocolate donuts (makes about 6 to 7 donuts):
- 1 cup cake flour
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 and 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup and 3 tablespoons milk
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon melted butter
Preheat oven to 325 degrees and grease a donut pan with cooking spray.
In a small bowl, mix cake flour (if you don't have cake flour, all-purpose flour works fine), unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until combined. Add in milk, egg, vanilla extract, and melted butter. Whisk or stir until well combined. Fill each donut cavity 1/2 full and bake in the oven for 12 to 14 minutes. When you insert a toothpick in a donut and it comes out clean, you know it is done. Let cool (slightly) on a wire rack. I have made these donuts several times and every time I baked mine for 12 minutes, they came out great!
While the donuts are baking you can make the simple vanilla glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon softened butter
- 2 tablespoons milk
Mix the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, softened butter, and milk until well combined. Add more milk (a little at a time) if the glaze is to thick. Once donuts are done baking and slightly cool, dunk the top of each donut in the glaze (add sprinkles if desired) and let harden. Serve and enjoy!
